Mission Statement
Our mission is to reduce the rise of drug overdoses, domestic violence, human trafficking, bullying and gangs. Prevention and reduction can be obtained through knowledge and awareness. Through live expos and an interactive website, schools, businesses, churches and individuals can learn more about the issues and obtain recovery resources available to assist communities and individuals affected.
Overview
Our organization provides educational awareness and resources to k-12 - adults in combating the challenges and effects faced as it relates to drug abuse, domestic violence, gangs and sexual attacks. This is accomplished through an annual exposition consisting of various crime fighting vehicles, K9, self-defense and CPR demonstrations, various seminars about each subject and over 50 exhibits from various resource centers. An interactive website allows schools, businesses and churches locally and nationally access to similar information year-round.
Since the conception, we have educated over 20,000 8th grade students and several thousand residents about the issues. The results have been amazing with the program becoming a permanent part of the school system’s curriculum, and the community experiencing a 39.6% drop in crime and a 40% drop in overdoses.
In late 2014 while driving to work, creator Joe Tabeling, heard a news report about the rise of drug use in his community. Shortly after he heard about the increase presence of gangs in the area. Although he was aware of the situation in other counties, he was not aware of the situation right in his own backyard. Imagining he was not the only one to be unaware and having a background in developing expos, he thought an educational expo was needed. Thus the “Drug and Violence Awareness Expo” was created. (more)
Every community in the United States is experiencing a rise in drug overdoses, domestic violence and sexual attacks. Most individuals affected by one of these issues is directed to either the general hospital or local law enforcement for assistance. Many times individuals are reluctant to go in fear of reticule or embarrassment.
